Care of Jewellery

  • Lady Legs Range:
    • Brass: Brass tarnishes quicker than silver and therefore it is recommended that it be polished on a regular basis to maintain its shine. 'Brasso' or other brass-polishes are ideal for restoring the jewellery's original finish when used with a soft cloth. These can be purchased from supermarkets and are very affordable.
    • Silver: Use silver dips and silver polishing cloths to keep your legs sparkly.
    • Legs that are riveted together will loosen over time. If the client wishes them to be tightened they can follow the guidelines in Catherine Chester's terms and conditions for details of postage for maintenance.
  • Silver Cameos:
    • The photographs within the pieces are coated with a protective varnish. This does not however make them waterproof and moisture should be avoided at all times, especially with rings when washing hands. If water does get inside the piece, leave to air-dry or position under a desk-lamp.
    • Silver that has been oxidised (blackened) will fade over time, which adds to their antique nature. If the client however would like to return the items, Catherine Chester is happy to re-oxidise them free of charge. Please see her terms and conditions for details of postage for maintenance.
    • When maintaining the surface of silver, do not use any liquid products as these may damage the photograph inside. Instead use a silver-cloth on a regular basis to avoid any tarnishing. These can be obtained from jewellery suppliers and will keep the jewellery's surface shiny.

  • Outlets must send any work being returned in the original packaging it was received in. Any damage during transit that is the result of miss-packaging must be covered by the outlet. The outlet's insurance must cover the work during transit until it has been received by Catherine Chester.
